All Windows XP users.

The Windows XP SP3 Block and Unblock Tools (vendor: Brown University) will allow you to enable or disable Windows Updates from automatically installing Windows XP SP3. For further information, see: http://www.brown.edu/Facilities/CIS/public/winxpsp3.html

This program will have no effect on versions of Windows other than XP.

This software is provided "as is" without any warranty of any kind. The user assumes responsibility for all risk and consequences of proper and improper use of this software and related materials.

1. Download the block SP3 tool by clicking on the appropriate link at the bottom of this page.
2. In the "File Download" window click "Save."
3. At the "Save As" dialog, click "Save."
4. When the download is complete, navigate to your computer's download location and double-click on "blocksp3.exe." You will be notified that the SP3 Blocker will block Serivce Pack 3 from being applied to your computer.
5. Begin the Block SP3 installation by clicking "OK." You will be notified that your computer will not receive Service Pack 3 for a period of 12 months unless you apply the Unblock SP3 tool.
6. Click OK.
7. No further messages will appear. Block SP3 is applied and the Windows XP SP3 update will no longer be listed as an automatic update.

To reverse the SP3 block, download and install the "Unblock SP3 Tool" (provided below).
