The Windows Internet Explorer 8 Block and Unblock Tools (vendor: Brown University)
will allow you to enable or disable Microsoft Internet Explorer version 8 from automatically installing. CIS has performed limited testing
on Internet Explorer 8 in Brown's computing environment. For further information,

https://wiki.brown.edu/confluence/x/DQAzAw for Windows Vista users.
This program will have no effect on versions of Internet Explorer other than version 8.

Download and Installation |
Please check with your DCC prior to applying this tool. If your computer is in
Active Directory, it is possible that the blocker has already been applied for your department.
- Download the block Internet Explorer 8 tool by clicking on the appropriate link below.
- In the "File Download" window click "Save."
- At the "Save As" dialog, click "Save."
- When the download is complete, navigate to your computer's download location and double-click on "blockie8.cmd.
Windows Vista users must right-click on blockie8.cmd and select "Run as Administrator."
- When you receive the security warning "Are you sure you want to run this software?" click Run.
- Vista users must click Continue at the User Account Control dialog.
- When the tool finishes, a command window will appear displaying the message "Command completed successfully, Press any
key to continue."
- Press a key to close the window.
- No further messages will appear. Block IE8 is applied and the Internet Explorer 8 update will no longer be listed
as an automatic update.
To reverse the IE8 block, download and apply the "Unblock Internet Explorer 8 Tool" (provided below).
