You may not need any version of Acrobat Pro if you do not create or edit PDF files. You can view PDF files using one of the following options:

• Use the Preview application included with Macintosh OS X.

• Or you can use a PDF viewer such as Adobe Acrobat Reader.

If you need to create or edit PDF files, there are a few software options available to you:

• Native support for creating PDF files is built in to OS X by the "Save as PDF" option when printing files.

• Brown University faculty or staff who wish to create PDF files without the use of KeyServer may register for an unkeyed version of Acrobat Pro 7 or 8. (Acrobat Pro version 8 requires Mac OS 10.4.)

• If you are not using the "Save as PDF" option and do not qualify for the unkeyed version of Adobe Acrobat Pro, you may install Adobe Acrobat Pro Version 7 or Version 8 to create and edit PDF files.

If you are a Brown University student, faculty or staff and need to use other Adobe products:

• Adobe Creative Suite 2 includes Adobe Acrobat Pro 7. The Adobe CS2 installer requires 5.7 GB of hard disk space and 384 MB of RAM.

• Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium includes Adobe Acrobat Pro 8. The system requirements for Creative Suite 3 Design Premium will be prohibitive for many users (Mac OS 10.4.10, 1 GB of RAM and 9.2 GB of hard disk space).
