Buying Software

Brown University offers students, faculty and staff members the opportunity to purchase software for both personal and University business purposes through the Brown Bookstore and Dell. Purchases may be made through the vendors identified below or through a reseller of your choice. Vendors mentioned on this page carry many of Brown's recommmended software titles at excellent prices. You are not limited by these recommendations - it's best to compare prices.

University Software Purchases

Dell and the Brown Bookstore Technology Center are Brown University's selected resellers for software. You may order media and/or software licenses:

• By contacting Brown's Dell MPA-Account Manager, Chrissy Stewart, Christine_Stewart at Dell.com
• By calling Dell at 1-888-977-3355, 1, 7249536
• By using Dell|ASAP web page, specially customized for Brown users. First-time users need to request an account by sending email to Carol_Vaters at brown.edu.
• By visiting the Brown Bookstore Technology Center

Software purchases through Dell must be made using a Brown University purchase order or Brown departmental credit card (known as a Purchasing Card) and must be shipped to a Brown University campus address.

Stand-Alone Software Purchases for Faculty & Staff

Several academically priced software titles are available to faculty and staff, eliminating the need for KeyServer or VPN. These titles are indicated with a   on both the Macintosh and Windows Software Distribution pages.

Personal Software Purchases

Software for personal use by students, faculty and staff may be purchased at academic pricing through e-academy or at the Brown Bookstore Technology Center.

Microsoft Software

If you need to purchase Microsoft software, click on the applicable link below:

• Students - Student Select Program
  The Microsoft Student Select Program provides Brown University students the opportunity to purchase selected Microsoft software titles at significant discount. Note: Students may obtain Windows XP Pro at no charge by visiting the CIS Help Desk, Room 101, CIT Building.


• Faculty/Staff - Microsoft Select Program
  This is an option for higher education customers to purchase Microsoft licenses and media for software not covered under our Campus Agreement. Microsoft Office is available to faculty and staff from Brown's Microsoft Office distribution page.

If you are unable to locate a particular software title on Dell's web site, you may call or send an email request. Some titles that are not listed on the web site may be available on request. Software pricing and availability are subject to change.
